Сryodestruction of brain tumors (cryodestruction technique and technology)

Abstract

In this article results of cryodestruction of brain tumors using new cryosurgical instrument are observed. This cryosurgical unit is equipped with 3 removable cryoinstruments with different tip sizes: 4.5; 6 and 8 mm. Main features of AKHA-03 are: active pumping of nitrogen vapor with the help of vacuum pump and function of heat exchanger active warming. This the first time when this unit is used in clinical practice. The methodology of cryosurgical treatment that we have developed implies the usage of intraoperative ultrasonography (IOUS) for correct topical diagnosis and determination of tumor size, clarifying of induction trajectory and the point of cryoprobe tip dipping. Also with the help of IOUS we can trace and fix ice ball formation and melting and control the realisation of several cryodestruction cycles.
