Using sonication in the diagnosis of peri-implant infection

Abstract

The authors provide an overview of published data on the problem peri-implantit infection and the use of sonication method in its diagnosis, as well as data of its own pilot prospective comparative study of bacteriological analyzes of biopsy samples peri-implant tissues and sonicate of implants: 50% of the research results have coincided; in 10% of cases sonicate identified pathogen, and biopsy – no; in 40% of cases sonicate revealed significant contamination of the implant above the critical level, and biopsy – only a small contamination of tissues.
