Editorial

In recent decades, medical scientific world has experienced an incredible growth in researches studying pain issues. Various professional communities, first of all International Association for Study of Pain, as well as specialized scientific journals are created. Apart from that, the results of studies are published on a regular basis and the educational programs considering the pain as the topic are commonly held in various institutions. More and more centers are interested in pain management, so there’re lots of new and new pain clinics created. The 40th anniversary of the establishment of pain syndromes department based on the multidisciplinary B.V. Petrovsky Russian Research Center of Surgery is celebrated in 2016. A wide range of medical, scientific and educational issues are solved in this center. According to practice of pain syndromes department bringing over 40 years’ experience in pain management, it is found, that multidisciplinary approach in pain treatment is the most efficient.

Despite the focused attention to the idea of pain treatment, many pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment related issues still remain unknown and the epidemiology of pain syndromes shows its steady increase.

Therefore, this issue is aimed to present the modern data on acute and chronic pain incidence, diagnostics and treatment aspects, including operative therapy features.
