Surgical treatment of patients with intravenous leiomyomatosis and tumor thrombosis of the right heart

Abstract

Surgical treatment of patients with intravenous leiomyomatosis and tumor thrombosis of the venous heart were presented in occasional publications in literature. Four patients with intravenous leiomyomatosis and tumor thrombosis of the right heart were operated in the Russian Oncological Scientific Center named after N.N. Blokhin from the 2010 to 2016 years. The average age of patients ranged from 35 to 64 years – two of them had surgical intervention, because of the hysteromyoma. Neoplasm was identified in the small pelvis and spread into the vena cava inferior via internal iliac vein or ovarian vein in four patients. All patients underwent the radical surgery with a cardio- pulmonary bypass. Three patients had complications, but without fatal outcome. Operations were rather radical, with full functional rehabilitation and with satisfactory long-term results, despite the degree of complexity.
