Stages of chronic postoperative pain prevention

Abstract

This review is aimed to study the postoperative pain aspects. The main issues of postoperative chronic pain epidemiology are reviewed as well as risk factors contributing to pain chronicity which basicly include traumatic character of surgery, inadequate analgesia in the early postoperative period and the presence of pain prior to surgery. Modern approaches to the postoperative analgesia with particular reference to pharmacological treatment are presented. The aspects of using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in the multimodal approach of postoperative analgesia are demonstrated. The need of the developing staged pain relief management plan is discussed in terms of postoperative patients treatment.
