From the history of transplantology in Russia: academician Valery Shumakov (1931–2008)

Transplantation of the heart is a “gold standard” for the treatment of patients with congestive heart failure. This article demonstrates history and development of heart transplantation in Rus- sia. Academician Valery Shumakov with his colleagues performed a big role in realization of heart transplantation program as well as development and implementation of artificial organs.
