Stenting of vertebral compression fracture

Abstract

The article presents a brief overview of the percutaneous methods of spine stabilization; analysis of the first experience of percutaneous stenting systems using in patients with compression fractures of the vertebral bodies; developed indications and contra-indications for different types of stents. With the help of a system that uses hydraulic method of disclosure were operated on 12 patients, of whom stenting of 2 vertebrae was performed in 3 patients; with stents using mechanical principle of disclosure were operated on 11 patients, including 5 patients were operated on 2 vertebrae. It was revealed that using stents using the hydraulic principle of disclosure is impossible to restore the body height of a broken vertebra in patients with preserved density of bone tissue, even in the early period after the injury. Stents using mechanical principle of dis- closure is possible to use even in young patients with good density of the bone tissue. Another advantage of these stents is possible to fix a fracture without the use of bone cement.
