Fair dealing for scientific studies
AbstractScience, like any social institution, is subjected to var- ious forms of corruption, including negligent conduct of research (plagiarism, falsification and fabrication). In present situation research misconduct became an issue of particular concern among the scientific communities, governmental bodies, general public. The article gives a brief description of the «ethos of science» (R. Merton) as a normative basis which is needed to ensure the reliable and robust quality of the scientific knowledge. Different forms of negative influ- ence (political, financial etc.) on research integrity are discussed. The authors analyse different forms of violation of accepted standards of research activities (research misconduct) and definitions of plagiarism, fabrication and falsification. They pay particular at- tention to the ethics of scientific publications, role of the scientific community and editorial boards in ensuring good quality of research articles.
