The launching of a new journal is always about being in search of something. In search of the direction, the content and form, in search of the audience. This issue of our journal is in a way experimental again because we have decided to preserve in time the materials of the very interesting symposium on cardiomyopathy held in September, 2013 in St. Petersburg as part of the Russian National Congress of Cardiology devoted to the 50th anniversary of the Russian Society of Cardiology. This approach to scientific articles’ selection is not new, of course: we would just like to clarify our position in this regard. Despite the fact that this issue is primarily cardiology and cardiologists focused, it is more universal in its purpose. There is a systematic approach to the problem: the need for a closer relationship between basic knowledge and clinical practice, pursuit of a more accurate, personalized diagnosis, the obligation to treat a patient unitedly by different healthcare professionals.

Our journal meets these goals, the same is true for the article by Professor E.V. Shlyakhto, President of the Russian Society of Cardiology, which refers to the shortest possible time distance between research and medical practice.
