A case of idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis

Abstract

Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a polyetiological disease, manifested by massive lesion of retroperitoneal fiber, involving in the pathological process primarily the aorta, inferior vena cava and ureters, as well as other structures. The goal of this case report is focusing attention of surgeons and other specialists on such a rare variant of inflammatory disorder, as well as to demonstrate the variant of responding to therapy. The clinical observation demonstrates the main manifestations, methods of instrumental diagnostics and one of the treatment options for idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (Ormond's disease) in a male patient 56 years old. The successful outcome of the combined treatment approach, which included surgery and follow-up therapy with corticosteroids and mycophenolic acid in the proposed combination, demonstrates the need for further research in the selection of the optimal treatment regimen, the frequency of control imaging methods for assessing the activity of the disease, the choice of the duration of therapy.
