Comparative efficiency of external drugs with antibacterial action for experimental wound treatment

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the rate of wound healing and compare the effectiveness of registered external antibacterial wound healing agents.

Material and methods. The study was performed on old Wistar rats (body weight Me=425 g), which under non-sterile conditions inflicted wounds of a given size (121.9±2.1 mm2). We studied 4 groups of wounds: 2 without treatment (Control_0 - intact; Control_ps - injected physiological solution on the day of modeling), as well as 2 using external antibacterial drugs (silver sulfathiazole (SS), chloramphenicol with dioxomethyltetrahydropyrimidine (CD). At 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 14 days, the dynamic area of the wounds, their lobe change relative to the initial sizes, the dynamic thermometry of the wounds. Histological examination of the wounds was performed on days 3, 7, 14.

Results. Within 2 weeks, the area of intact wounds was reduced by 6 times, the inflammatory period lasted up to 3 days, positive changes were recorded from 5 days. In the Control_ps group, the period of wound expansion lasted up to 7 days, significant healing was recorded on day 14, when the wound area regressed 4.5 times relative to the initial values. In the SS and CD groups, a significant increase in wounds was established on days 1 and 3 with a return to the initial level on the 5th day, wound reduction was recorded from 7 days in the SS group, and DX on the 14th day. By the 14th day, the area of wounds of the SS group decreased on average by 88%, CD - 85%, which is comparable with the Control_0 group (83%). Morphological analysis showed a tendency to impaired wound healing up to 7 days with the use of CD and SS groups.

Conclusion. The expediency of wide early use of tested antimicrobial ointments for the treatment of wounds that do not have signs of inflammation and bacterial contamination on the first day has not been proven.
