Much esteemed colleagues!
Abstract
To utilize various technologies (assisted circulation,
blood-saving technologies, hemostatic agents, minimally invasive procedures)
has allowed us to expand scope of surgical interference and perform surgeries
to cancer patients that had been considered irresectable or inoperable before.
This clearly happens thanks to implementing a multidisciplinary and
patient-specific approach while discussing treatment strategy
and treatment of such category of patients, which helps clinical surgeons
satisfy their growing requirements.
Currently, the treatment selection is determined non
only by the clinical condition of the patient, available concurrent diseases,
tumor type and extent, but also by the mutation status of the tumour and
pharmacogenetic markers. Moreover, the treatment selection is affected by the
surgeon's experience, his/her awareness of state-of-the-art capabilities
of molecular diagnostic aids and flexibility to use such data.
In view of the above, we dedicated this issue to
treating oncological patients. Besides a number of original research articles,
a number of clinical impressions demonstrating multidisciplinary approach in
multimodal treatment of patients has been included in this issue. To treat
such patients successfully is of great practical consequence since there
are no clinical guidelines to solve tactical issues.
We hope that the content of this issue will be
interesting not only to oncologists and surgeons but also to other specialists
treating oncological patients at different stages.
