Elimination of an extensive defect of the frontoparietal region in a patient after a high-voltage electrical injury (clinical case)

Abstract

Patients with head defects resulting from high voltage electricity require an individual protocol for surgical treatment and postoperative rehabilitation. The presented clinical case shows the result of an interdisciplinary approach in reconstructive surgery in a patient with an extensive defect of the frontoparietal region. An individually modeled titanium plate and a revascularized thoracodorsal flap with a free skin autograft were selected as the material for closing the defect. The used flap healed beautifully, after 6 months after the operation, its contour did not protrude beyond the edges of the intact tissues of the scalp. The flap corresponded to the shaft of the head circumference in the frontoparietal region. The patient was satisfied with the results of the operation. The use of this operating technique requires careful surgical planning, proficiency in microsurgical reconstructive surgery, and effective postoperative rehabilitation.
