Interventional approaches for the treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Abstract

HCM is the most frequently occurring autosomal dominant genetic heart disease. Transaortic septal myectomy (SM) is currently considered the gold standard for the treatment of patients with obstructive HCM with severe symptoms unresponsive to medical therapy. Some patients, however, have absolute or relative contraindications to surgery. Alcohol septal ablation (SA), which has been in use for the past 18 years, has become the leading strategy in these patients. This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of alcohol septal ablation and its impact on long-term prognosis. The results of our study show, that SA is an effective and safety procedure and can be an attractive alternative to SM in selected subject.
