Dear colleagues!
Abstract
This journal issue dedicated to problems of paediatric
cardiac surgery has been conceived together with Prof. Vladimir
Aleksi-Meskhishvili. Initially, his article on the strategy of developing this
subdiscipline of cardiac surgery in Russia was intended to open the
special issue of the journal. However, man proposes... Now, instead of the
first journal article, we are publishing the last interview with Vladimir
Vladimirovich (Lado) to recognize his talent and prominence in
establishing the Russian school of paediatric cardiac surgery.
In this issue, emphasis is put on both
state-of-the-art technologies for surgical correction of congenital heart
defects in children, and fundamental problems of our field of knowledge, which
includes causes of congenital heart defects (CHD) and approaches to
genetic testing. Not only a precise diagnosis, but also a forecast for the
next generations, and a chance to avoid another birth of a sick child in the
family imply understanding of aetiology and logic how the defect occurs.
Key reports of the 7th All-Russian conference of
paediatric cardiac surgeons and CHD specialists "Congenital heart defects
with venae cavae and pulmonary veins diseases", held in Saint Petersburg
on 9-11 September 2021, are featured in the articles. An important
decision on establishing a multidisciplinary CHD Specialists Society was
made at this conference.
On behalf of our editorial team, we congratulate
everybody on this event remarkable for paediatric cardiac surgery in Russia.
