Dear colleagues,

Abstract

Original articles on impact of the novel coronavirus infection COVID-19 on the course and outcomes of treating surgical patients who are already prone to particular complications open this issue of our journal. The general development aspect of this formidable multisystem damage disease has been researched in sufficient detail. Meanwhile, data on surgical treatment in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 are considerably less in available publications. Eventually, such combination results in increasing the number of patients with severe disease who are admitted to hospitals, suffering from emergency surgical pathology. It is not for the first time that our journal responds to the doctors’ need to share this unusual work experience. Despite the virus pandemic intensity decreases, it is not unlikely that we will have to consider its consequences in our routine surgical practice for a rather long time.
