Curative laparoscopic interventions in esophageal cancer surgery, colon and rectum: current state and prospects of the problem
AbstractSurgical treatment is the primary approach to pa- tients with solid gastrointestinal tumors. After the rapid spread of laparoscopic techniques in the treatment of benign diseases, surgeons started to consider mini-invasive surgery to be suitable for malignancies as well. However, operating malignancies requires not only to achieve negative surgical margin (R0), but to perform an adequate lymph node dissection in order to complete the intervention. Well designed and thoroughly controlled large studies, estimating short- and long-term outcomes and quality of life, are required to decide, whether laparoscopic approach is applicable in abdominal oncological surgery. This review renders current evidence on safety and oncological adequacy of mini-invasive surgery in treatment of malignancies of oesophagus, colon and rectum. The conclusion is made, that with sufficient equipment and experience mini-invasive approach is safe and promising.
