Choosing the power of low-frequency ultrasonic venous wall obliteration

Abstract

Varicose veins of the lower extremities – a common multifactorial disease that occurs in 30% of the adult population in industrialized countries. At the same time, surgical treatment is indicated for patients with clinical manifestations of chronic venous disease C2–C6 according to the CEAР classification. After the surgical treatment, the majority of patients noted a leveling of symptoms and an improvement in the quality of life.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the histological picture of the venous wall after low-frequency ultrasonic vein obliteration in an animal model using different exposure parameters in a pilot acute experiment. The study was also aimed to determine the appropriate power to perform a chronic experiment.

The proposed method of low-frequency ultrasonic obliteration has advantages over existing modern endovasal treatment methods due to its combined effect. The optimal power based on the histological picture was 1.9 W, at which the occlusion rate of the central vein of the rabbit’s ear was 97.4% 6 months after low-frequency ultrasound exposure.
