Brain protection during transcatheter aortic valve implantation: clinical case study

Abstract

This article describes transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) with and without the brain embolism protection system (BPS). A clinical case study shows that the use of the Sentinel TM CPS BPS prevented deterioration of the neurophysiological status in the early postoperative period of TAVI. A randomized prospective study is needed to evaluate the effect of BPS on a relevant sample of patients.

Keywords: transcatheter aortic valve implantation; brain protection system; postoperative cognitive dysfunction; electroencephalography
